Guide
Maintain a business website with a short recurring checklist
Website maintenance should keep business information accurate, contact actions working and the site under the control of the right people. Review frequently changing offers when they change, test essential actions on a recurring schedule and keep a record of important updates. The exact technical work depends on the platform and hosting arrangement.
A repeatable maintenance review
Make each check someone’s responsibility.
- 1
Business facts
Services, hours, offers and contact details.
- 2
Visitor actions
Forms, telephone links and external booking.
- 3
Accounts
Domain, hosting, access and renewal owner.
- 4
Change record
What changed and how it was verified.
Separate content maintenance from platform maintenance
Content maintenance includes service scope, hours, prices, photographs and contact information. Platform maintenance includes the hosting, software and integrations needed to serve the site. A hosted builder can manage much of the platform, while a self-hosted system may need an owner for updates, backups and extensions. Confirm who does what rather than assuming every maintenance task is included in a subscription.
Choose checks that reflect your business
A seasonal service business should review offers before each season. A practice with limited availability should update the relevant page when its status changes. A stable brochure site may need fewer copy changes, but its inquiry path still needs testing. Assign a person to each recurring check so an outdated page does not remain everyone’s responsibility and nobody’s task.
- After a business change: update affected pages, contact instructions and offers.
- Monthly starting point: submit a labeled inquiry, check key links and review service accuracy.
- Before renewal: confirm domain, hosting, billing contact and account access.
- After an integration change: retest the complete visitor action and its destination.
Write edits that can be reviewed
Instead of “refresh the services page,” specify the change: “Remove weekend availability from the HVAC repair page and keep the replacement-estimate section unchanged.” In Workroom, request the edit in chat and inspect the result before considering it complete. Check related pages for the same outdated statement. A single edited paragraph does not prove that all references were corrected.
Keep a simple change record
Record the date, affected URL, reason, approver and verification result for material updates. Keep current account owners and recovery information in the business’s appropriate private records, not in public page content. If a change breaks a form or removes important information, use the platform’s available recovery process and verify the public result.
Review performance without rewriting everything
Use customer questions and actual search data to choose improvements. A page receiving relevant impressions but few useful visits may need clearer wording or a better answer; a page with visitors but failed inquiries needs a functional check first. Avoid repeatedly changing URLs or replacing accurate copy without a reason. Maintenance should preserve what is useful while correcting what is wrong or obsolete.
