Workroom vs Framer

You need About, services, a couple of landing pages, a form, and a domain. Here is how to pick.

Pick Workroom

You think in words, not layout, and nobody on the team wants to live in a design canvas.

Pick Framer

Motion and precise layout are the brand, and a designer will actually spend the time in the tool.

Pick neither of us

You need a store, memberships, or booking. Neither of us does that; use Wix or Shopify.

How to choose

  • Choose Workroom if you think in words rather than layout, and would rather describe a change than drag elements on a canvas.
  • Choose Workroom if you want a live site today, not after you have learned a new design tool.
  • Choose Framer if motion and layout precision are part of your brand, and you or someone on your team will actually learn the canvas.
  • Do not choose Workroom if you need a store, memberships, or native booking. Framer does not cover those either, so you would add a separate tool in both cases.

    $10 a month.

  • Framer Pro site plan$360/yr

    $30 a month.

  • Framer Pro, plus one extra editor seat$600/yr

What Workroom is

Describe your business and Workroom builds a live-ready site: pages for what you do, who you help, and how to reach you. You review it, then change anything by asking, for example “make the hero shorter” or “add a pricing table to the offer page”. When it is ready, publish on your own domain with SSL handled automatically. Lead capture and analytics are included from the first dollar. Building and previewing is free: 20 free credits, no card required.

You change the services page on a Tuesday. Here is what that costs.

Both tools get you a live site. The difference shows up on the tenth edit, not the first.

In Workroom

3 steps
  1. 1Type the change in chat: “update the services page to add wills and probate”
  2. 2Read the diff and keep or discard it
  3. 3Live, as a new version you can roll back

In Framer

5 steps
  1. 1Open the project
  2. 2Find the frame, component, or override that owns the text
  3. 3Edit on the canvas without breaking the layout
  4. 4Check every breakpoint you defined
  5. 5Publish

When Framer is better

  • You need precise layout and animation controls and have someone available to maintain the design.
  • You or a designer on the team genuinely enjoy working in a visual design tool and will keep using it.
  • You are building a designer-led marketing site where pixel-level control is the point, not a byproduct.

When Workroom is better

  • You want to publish today and keep the site current by typing requests, not by learning a design canvas.
  • Nobody on the team is a designer, and nobody wants to become one to update a page.
  • You would rather spend the time on the offer and the copy than on layout and spacing.

Common questions

Can I use my own domain?
Yes. Connect a domain you own and Workroom handles SSL automatically once you are on a paid plan. There is no separate certificate setup.
Do I need a developer after it is live?
No. Ongoing changes are made by chatting with Workroom in plain English. There is no canvas, no components, and no breakpoints to manage.
Can I move off Framer?
There is no direct import, because Framer sites are built as Framer-specific design work. Describing the same business in Workroom gets you a comparable marketing site without redoing the design yourself.
Is there ecommerce?
Not in Workroom, and not natively in Framer either. If you need a store, go to Shopify.
What does $50 a year include?
One published site on your own domain with automatic SSL, unlimited chat editing, version history, lead capture and contacts, analytics, and 50 task credits a year. Need more? One-time credit packs are available any time.
Is chat editing really free?
Yes. Editing by chat has no separate cost, including during the free build-and-preview stage before you publish. Credits cover generation and build work, not conversation.
