Workroom vs Wix

You need About, services, a couple of landing pages, a form, and a domain. Here is how to pick.

Pick Workroom

You want the marketing site and nothing else, and you want to keep editing it by asking.

Pick Wix

You genuinely want booking, a store, a CRM, and an inbox in one login, and you accept the lock-in.

Pick neither of us

You need a store as the main event. Go to Shopify and keep the marketing site separate.

How to choose

  • Choose Workroom if you want a marketing site and nothing else: no app catalog to browse, no dashboard to configure.
  • Choose Workroom if you want to keep changing the site yourself, by asking, instead of opening a drag-and-drop editor.
  • Choose Wix if you genuinely want booking, a store, a CRM, and an inbox running from one login, and you are fine committing to that ecosystem.
  • Do not choose Workroom if you need a store, memberships, or native booking. Wix has all three.

Annual publishing cost

Known annual costs, checked September 9, 2026. Plan limits, taxes and add-ons may change the total.

  • Workroom, published on your domain$50/yr

One plan. SSL, chat editing, leads, analytics, 50 task credits a year.

  • Wix Light, billed annually$204/yr

$17 a month. No ecommerce at this tier.

  • Wix Core, billed annually$348/yr

    $29 a month.

  • Wix Business, billed annually$468/yr

    $39 a month.

Workroom hosting is billed yearly per site. Chat editing is free; additional paid routine usage, domain registration and separately purchased services can add to the total.

What Workroom is

Describe your business and Workroom builds a live-ready site: pages for what you do, who you help, and how to reach you. You review it, then change anything by asking, for example “make the hero shorter” or “add a pricing table to the offer page”. When it is ready, publish on your own domain with SSL handled automatically. Lead capture and analytics are included from the first dollar. Building and previewing is free: 20 free credits, no card required.

You change the services page on a Tuesday. Here is what that costs.

Both tools get you a live site. The difference shows up on the tenth edit, not the first.

In Workroom

3 steps
  1. 1Type the change in chat: “update the services page to add wills and probate”
  2. 2Read the diff and keep or discard it
  3. 3Live, as a new version you can roll back

In Wix

5 steps
  1. 1Open the editor
  2. 2Find the element on the canvas
  3. 3Edit it, then fix the alignment it nudged
  4. 4Switch to the mobile view and fix it there too
  5. 5Publish

When Wix is better

  • You want booking, a store, a CRM, and an inbox running from one login, and you are happy configuring the app behind each one.
  • You are comfortable committing to one ecosystem for the long run, because Wix sites are hard to export or move off later.
  • You want a visual drag-and-drop editor and do not mind the extra surface area that comes with it.

When Workroom is better

  • You only need the marketing site: what you do, who it is for, and a way to get in touch, with no app catalog to sort through.
  • You want the shortest path from “I have a business” to “I have a live site”, measured in minutes rather than an afternoon of setup.
  • You care about not being locked in: your pages stay plain HTML and CSS.

Common questions

Can I use my own domain?
Yes. Connect a domain you own and Workroom handles SSL automatically once you are on a paid plan. There is no separate certificate setup.
Do I need a developer after it is live?
No. Ongoing changes are made by chatting with Workroom in plain English. There is no drag-and-drop editor or app configuration to learn.
Can I move off Wix?
It is difficult. Wix does not offer a real export, so most people who leave rebuild rather than migrate. Workroom cannot pull your Wix content in, but describing the same business gets you a comparable site quickly.
Is there ecommerce?
Not in Workroom, on purpose. If you need a store or a cart, Wix has full ecommerce built in, or go to Shopify.
What does $50 a year include?
One published site on your own domain with automatic SSL, unlimited chat editing, version history, lead capture and contacts, analytics, and 50 task credits a year. Need more? One-time credit packs are available any time.
Is chat editing really free?
Yes. Editing by chat has no separate cost, including during the free build-and-preview stage before you publish. Credits cover generation and build work, not conversation.
