Compare options for a business marketing website.
Workroom vs Squarespace
You need About, services, a couple of landing pages, a form, and a domain. Here is how to pick.
Pick Workroom
You would rather describe the change than make it, and the site will keep changing after launch.
Pick Squarespace
You want a designer-grade template today, and you will use Acuity scheduling on the same platform.
Pick neither of us
You need a custom application or specialized operations software beyond either website builder.
How to choose
- Choose Workroom if you would rather describe your business in a sentence and keep editing by chat than arrange blocks in a template.
- Choose Workroom if the site changes often, new offer, new price, new page, and you do not want to relearn an editor each time.
- Choose Squarespace if you want a designer-grade template out of the box and you are happy to learn its block editor once.
- Do not choose Workroom if you need a store, memberships, or native booking on the same platform. Squarespace offers Acuity Scheduling through a separate subscription; Workroom does not provide a scheduling system.

| Workroom | Squarespace | |
|---|---|---|
| Time to first live site | Generate a draft from a description; review before launch | Choose a template and customize its content and layout |
| Editing after launch | Type what you want changed | Open the block editor and edit in place |
| Price to publish | $50 a year on your domain, SSL included | Varies by plan, billing term and location; confirm on Squarespace’s pricing page |
| Store and ecommerce | None, on purpose | Selling is available on Basic and higher plans; fees and features vary |
| Learning curve | Plain-language requests, followed by review | One editor to learn, but a good one |
| Leaving later | No proprietary page format: your pages stay plain HTML and CSS | Export is limited; expect rework |
| Forms and leads | Included: capture, contacts, analytics | Included, tied to your plan |
Annual publishing cost
Known annual costs, checked September 9, 2026. See the scope and cost notes for Squarespace; only the known Workroom hosting cost is plotted.
- Workroom, published on your domain$50/yr
One plan. SSL, chat editing, leads, analytics, 50 task credits a year.
Workroom hosting is billed yearly per site. Chat editing is free; additional paid routine usage, domain registration and separately purchased services can add to the total.
What Workroom is
Describe your business and Workroom builds a live-ready site: pages for what you do, who you help, and how to reach you. You review it, then change anything by asking, for example “make the hero shorter” or “add a pricing table to the offer page”. When it is ready, publish on your own domain with SSL handled automatically. Lead capture and analytics are included from the first dollar. Building and previewing is free: 20 free credits, no card required.
You change the services page on a Tuesday. Here is what that costs.
Both tools get you a live site. The difference shows up on the tenth edit, not the first.
In Workroom
3 steps- 1Type the change in chat: “update the services page to add wills and probate”
- 2Read the diff and keep or discard it
- 3Live, as a new version you can roll back
In Squarespace
5 steps- 1Open the site editor
- 2Find the page, then the section, then the block
- 3Edit the text and re-match the styling
- 4Check how it reflows on mobile
- 5Publish
When Squarespace is better
- You want a polished, designer-made template today and you are fine customizing it block by block.
- You want scheduling through Acuity alongside your marketing pages and accept a separate scheduling subscription.
- You already live in the Squarespace design system and might add commerce later without switching platforms.
When Workroom is better
- The site changes constantly, new offer this month, new case study next month, and you do not want to reopen a page builder every time.
- You want the person who knows the business, not a developer or a designer, to be the one making the edit.
- You want lead capture and analytics working on day one without bolting on separate tools.

Common questions
- Can I use my own domain?
- Yes. Connect a domain you own and Workroom handles SSL automatically once you are on a paid plan. There is no separate certificate setup.
- Do I need a developer after it is live?
- No. Ongoing changes are made by chatting with Workroom in plain English. There is no code editor or template system to learn.
- Can I move off Squarespace?
- You can start fresh in Workroom by describing the same business. Most people rebuild rather than migrate content, because Squarespace's export is limited.
- Is there ecommerce?
- Not in Workroom, on purpose. If you need a store or a cart, Squarespace supports that from the Core plan up, or go to Shopify.
- What does $50 a year include?
- One published site on your own domain with automatic SSL, unlimited chat editing, version history, lead capture and contacts, analytics, and 50 task credits a year. Need more? One-time credit packs are available any time.
- Is chat editing really free?
- Yes. Editing by chat has no separate cost, including during the free build-and-preview stage before you publish. Credits cover generation and build work, not conversation.
